Steve Smith likes the Ravens for 'bully' mentality

By now, you all know the story of Steve Smith.

He's mercurial. He plays with a chip on his shoulder. He's fought teammates.

In an interview with CSN Baltimore, Smith recently detailed exactly why he likes being a member of the Baltimore Ravens and how he would go about bullying someone.

It's an entertaining clip, and it's vintage Smith. His spork deadpan would be a top-10 quote if he didn't already have a full list of top-10 quotes from his 13-year career that include this and this from last year.

In his first exhibition with the Ravens, Smith had one catch for 9 yards against the 49ers. He also spun the ball after the catch.

Despite being released by the Panthers, in part due to the type of behavior and mentality seen above, Smith remains a sports hero in Charlotte.

Sports hero? Nah.......very good player for several years he was. Elite? Just outside. Good luck if he stays healthy. Personally see him out with injury by mid season.

Little man who likes to pick fights. Glad he's gone. He's 35 and has an injury history. Smitty was a great player, but what a jerk. I can't wait until he fades into obscurity.

These people making negative comments are not Panther fans. Second best receiver that ever played the game. 1st going to Jerry Rice of course.

Steve Smith is and will always be a Panther. Its business people, i wish he was still here, but understand its Cam & Lukes team. He will fit in great with the Ravens. He has done alot for the Charlotte area and still resides here too. Much luck this year Smitty!!! #89

We should have signed OJ Simpson after his accquital. It was obvious he could still cut and run.

He is in the past, but he is the best player that has ever played for the Panthers. Hopefully someone else will step up and take that mantle, but for now it is his.

It will be a big surprise if he doesn't score against us and wouldn't be a huge surprise if he doesn't score more than once.

I agree with Rich Tober. Whoever comments that "i'm glad he's gone, he's old, good luck staying healthy," go back to whatever city you came from because obviously you are NOT a panthers fan. He was the best the panthers had and he will still run circles on any of the receivers they tried to replace him with. He has been one of the most consistent players on the team not to mention that when he was injured, he would still come out and play. Fans my ass, get the )#%! out of here.

he is a great player but what a jerk, if you see him in public and even try to say hey to him he mumbles hey or turns away. i spoke to greg olsen at a restuarant, he was so friendly and took the time to at least aknowledge and thank me for being a fan and psl owner.

Steve Smith is the greatest Panther and may be challenged because of Newton, BUT the best class act of a player is definitely Greg Olsen! He's the TE I wished we got we he first out of college our of Miami. I knew he would be a spread the field and reliable TE.

Yeah...bullying is great. What a guy! Glad you're gone 89.

Posted by: RB Ron | Aug 15, 2014 5:13:39 PM

Of course he likes that mentality. 1 catch, 9 yards, spin the ball. Vintage SS....

Posted by: Hotspur | Aug 15, 2014 5:18:54 PM

Luke will be the greatest player and waaaay down road Panthers 1st HOF'er.

What is a "spork deadpan"?

Posted by: Chalotte | Aug 15, 2014 6:53:25 PM

@ Banks - thanks so much for providing the link of the full interview. That was a great interview of Smitty and truly shows the wonderful class he has. He's a good man, and I wish him the absolute best in Baltimore.

The only good part about Smith going is that I have made out like a bandit on his merchandise! Seriously, shirts and jerseys for $10!!! :) and you can walk into Bank of America stadium 30 years from now wearing those jerseys and get nods of approval!

Posted by: dennis | Aug 16, 2014 10:18:47 AM

I would give anything to have SS back in Charlotte.

Agree with RIch Tober....good riddance. I won't be at all surprised if Steve Smith ends up in prison one day.

Why must we keep writing stories about Steve Smith, lol

Posted by: Kenny | Aug 17, 2014 3:19:36 PM

how could anybody say he isn't elite?!

the guy is top 20 all-time and rising. doesn't get a lot more elite than that. and no matter what anybody says about the guy.....there's no reason we should be paying him 5 million to play elsewhere. that's a bad business decision no matter how you cut it. his replacement (cotchery or avant) isn't capable of being worth more. and there's a brand equity element in play here that just makes it disgusting to see 89 in another uni.

no positive to draw from it. didn't save money. didn't get better. didn't keep a legend and only possible panther hall of famer in the next decade.

Yeah, He got the bully part Correct ,against other teams is one thing but Steve Smith was a bully towards some fans. I'm at training camp at Wofford, Steve Smith has a card of mine he is signing, there's a youth group kids between 9 and 12 who are wanting autographs. they are calling to all the players HEY YOU!! to come sign autos. they are right beside me Steve Smith looks at the group and says , what's my name? they just look at him and another says hey you can you sign this for me. Steve Smith again ask what's my name? because they didn't know his name he didn't sign anything for them. yeah there's your bully. hope you stay in Baltimore with the rest of the thugs and punks.

I'm new on here but it seems like everyone is happy Steve Smith is gone. He has been a great mentor to our young receivers and fills a void that Anquan Boldin left. You should embracing him because he has to be the greatest Panther ever.

Muhsin Muhammad better then smith. more to being a great player then stats. sucker punching teammates treating fans like crap aren't terms for being the greatest panther
