Panthers working out WRs Hill and Boone
The Carolina Panthers worked out free agent wide receivers Stephen Hill and Kadron Boone on Monday, although coach Ron Rivera said the team does not plan to sign either of them immediately.
Hill was the Jets' second-round pick in 2012, a former Georgia Tech wideout with good size (6-4) and speed (timed at 4.36 seconds in the 40 at the combine).
But he struggled with drops during the preseason and was waived Saturday during the Jets' final roster cuts. He cleared waivers, and can sign with any team as a free agent.
Hill has a connection to Panthers receivers coach Ricky Proehl. Hill's agent, Alan Herman, represented Proehl during Proehl's playing career.
Herman told the Observer on Saturday Proehl could "do wonders" with Hill.
Hill caught 45 passes for 594 yards and four touchdowns over 23 games in his two seasons with the Jets. But given his upside, he's worth a look for a team who turned over their entire receiving corps.
First-round pick Kelvin Benjamin was the Panthers' clear No. 1 wideout during the preseason. But veterans Jason Avant and Jerricho Cotchery are both possession receivers, and the Panthers lack a wideout who can stretch the field as Ted Ginn did last season.
The other two receivers the Panthers kept are former Wofford wideout Brenton Bersin and rookie Philly Brown, an undrafted free agent from Ohio State.
Boone signed with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent, but was waived during the first round of cuts. The 6-foot, 205-pounder caught only seven passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns as a senior at LSU, where he played behind Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry.

Please sign Hill ASAP! That would be an awesome young addition. Not to mention his speed outside of philly brown is what's missing from the Panthers receiving corp. he would definitely be able to stretch the field with his 4.3 forty time and being 6'4 doesn't hurt neither.

Could be a nice pick up. He's young and hasn't had the best QB play so far. Remember it took Smitty a few years to turn into the player he was, not saying Hill is Smitty but at his age he a KB could be a nice duo.

the question is, who would we cut to take him?

Please sign Hill. Person correct in the team needs some one like Hill to widen the field. He deserves another shot.

Stephen Hill over Bertsin Brenson (or whatever) any day.

Brenton Bersin earned a roster spot. He stays but would like to see Hill get a chance. One of the oldies, Cotchery or Avant would have to go.

Smith is gone and so is Ginn and Lafell, and they are not coming back. Get over it and move on Panther fans. So far the new group has looked pretty good.

Hill is awful... hands of stone... and that wasn't with Cam Newton throwing fastballs at him. You want nothing to do with this guy... he'll go MIA for games at end.

Manti, I tried to call you this past weekend. Coach Ron said he will be giving you a call. Thanks for passing the Cammy Cam juice out in Chicago. Keep pounding!
