Five players fined for fights in Panthers-Falcons game

Players from the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons both claimed a pair of second-half fights energized them Sunday in the Falcons' 19-17 win at Bank of America Stadium.

The brawls also took a chunk from the paychecks of several players.

An NFL spokesman said Friday a total of five players were fined $8,268 apiece for their roles in the fights, which came on successive plays late in the third quarter.

Defensive backs Roman Harper and Josh Norman were fined for the Panthers, while Falcons receivers Roddy White, Harry Douglas and Devin Hester were docked, as well.

Things started when Harper was penalized for unnecessary roughness for shoving White's helmet into the turf after White's 11-yard catch. White got up and pushed Harper in the head.

On the following play, Norman and Douglas went to the ground with each grabbing the other's facemask. Hester dived headfirst at Norman, drawing an unnecessary roughness flag.

Good job dirty birds! Stand up for each other!

Saints play dirty all the time I'm glade those players did what they had to do. The falcon recivers had to fight if not the soft tag would follow them. The saints players try to get physical with the Falcons, because they think, hell the league thinks there soft . Dropping passes all the time. If I was losing I would attack what I thought was there weakness also.

Wow' a whole $8,000!! That's gonna have those players eating macaroni and cheese for...I don't know...maybe a side at one meal??!!
C'mon NFL if you are trying to get players attention to get them to quit fighting then you need to make those fines hurt! Kick them out of the game and fine each one what one game check would be!! That 8 grand is pretty much folding money for most in the NFL. But, a guy making a million a year would feel that one game check missing.
I watch a fight and a football game broke out! I do know one thing for sure. If the Panthers still had John Kasey kicking for them they would never have run the ball 3 times in a row!! They would have passed at least once as hot as Cam was that last drive. They would have gotten closer and Kasey would not have missed. They were stupid to let him go and to let Steve Smith either. But, Cam threw a fit because no one listens to him in the locker room ! Wah!! They only listen when Steve talks!! Soooo, he whines and gone is the most prolific receiver the Panthers have ever had! Oh, don't complain or you'll be GONE!! Just like Avant!!

Glad to see Keuchly didn't get anything for dragging Antone Smith to the ground by the facemask when the play was over. Way to be fair NFL. Way to get nasty and stand up for each other falcons. Love to see that against those kitties.

I love the Panther's regardless of the out come of the game. I am happy to see that all of the passion for the game didn't leave with Steve Smith! Let's get fired up!!!

Regardless of what you fine them it's a write-off. Business expense...

Guns dont kill people. ...Luke Keuchly kills people #MVP

There weren't any saints players in the game. It was the Falcons and panthers.

Too bad Luke can't play QB, RB, OL and coach. Go Dirty Birds!

I thought Falcons played unusually dirty this time. Saints always do since they got the coach they have now. Every time I see a team come out there playing dirty and the coach stands on the sideline looking the other way pretending he did not see it then they are as guilty. I seen coaches go after players that did something dirty. And when a team comes out to play dirty then you cannot sit there and take it either. And Goodell is fine happy racking up money like crazy over anything he can get away with.

There are Cat players with fire in the I guts. Need a front office with some.

I don't know why they discourage fighting at these games. Frankly, up until that point, that was the most entertaining action I'd seen all afternoon. Certainly the effect it had on lighting a fire under the Panthers was worthwhile. They should fight anytime they get behind like that and get a restart.

It's not like they're going to hurt one another. They're wearing pads and helmets with face guards, remember?

Daniel you should go to a Hornets game. Well nevermind because they don't know how to win either. Dirty Birds!

Its refreshing not having to watch Cam stink it up this Sunday (because of the bye week). Plus its nice not to see his stupid antics when we are losing. I hope he works on his accuracy during the bye, doubt it though he's probaly practicing on Madden.

The Cleveland Browns beat the Atlanta Falcons like the Panthers should have done last week. You leave Cam in during the fourth quarter vs. the Eagles risking injury, yet expressing that if Cam is the franchise quarter back. You leave him in to go through those pains of a game, then you take the foot off the pedal in the end of the Falcons game in not trusting your QB to get it done or go through the pains. Leaving him in the game then to build rapport and confidence which he did and make scores should have been no different last week vs. the Falcons. Just saying....Love the Panthers GO PANTHERS!!!

Only thing Cam is consistent at is completing less than half his pass attempts! Not a franchise quarterback!

Posted by: Gettleman = Garbage | Nov 23, 2014 6:32:43 PM

I can be a consistent player for the Panthers. Mr Gettleman, please give me a chance sir.

Wow Gettlebum, yea Steve Smith is a has been (sarcasm). You are a morin Gettleman.

As long as Cam, Shula, Rivera, and Gettleman are employed by the panthers we will continue to lose. Steve Smith elevated Cam's play, Cam didnt elevate Steve Smiths play. You see what Smitty Can do when gets to play with a real franchise quarterback. Imagine Smitty's career stats if he had Joe Flacco as his quarterback during his entire career.

Cam can only complete 2-3 passes a quarter. Shula is awful at play calling. Rivera is awful at clock management. Gettleman has made a lot of bad decisions.
