This is my first blog. I’m not as technologically savvy as some of you, although I do know that "blog" is short for Web log. It’s not bragging if you can back it up. I’m supposed to have something to say, right? Well, I think N.C. State will have the second best basketball team in the ACC this season, better even than Boston College. I think the Panthers will beat the New York Football Giants by a touchdown. Ever notice how much better quarterback Jake Delhomme is when DeShaun Foster runs effectively? I think the Panthers will win 11 regular season games. Oops. Wrote that back in early September. I think Chris Paul is a player who, when you pick the all-NBA team, will annually be on it. I think the Bobcats should have surrendered both picks to trade up and take him. Wrote that before the season, too. Three times. But sometimes I’m wrong. The other night I ordered a glass of wine and it was undrinkable. That was a bad move. But I like the bartender, so I just slid it aside and ordered a Chinese beer. Enough about me. Here’s one for you. I like neighborhood joints, the places only locals know about that are not part of a national chain. If you can recommend one, please do. I’ll buy.

Well, it's not that much of a secret, but the Wolfman pizza on Providence Road in the center of ... um, Myers Park ... is a surprisingly nice little neighborhood bar.

Tavern on the Tracks in South End is the best ma and pa tavern you will find in Charlotte. Excellent food, great hours, friendloy staff, and a favorite hangout of the Panthers, Bobcats and Checkers. And one more thing to Dre: California and pizza shouldn't be in the same sentence, let alone right next to each other.

All those places are great but the best neighborhood place for watching the Panthers play this weekend will be in my own neighborhood. MY HOUSE, 42 inch HD plasma TV, fireplace, warm blanket, cold Sam Adams (Winter brew), steak on the grill, my dog and my wife sitting beside me on the sofa screaming louder than I am win Steve Smith destroys the WEAK linebacking crew of the Giants as the Panthers roll up into the Meadowlands!!!!!!

Priscuitto's in Cornelius. Only been open a month, and the owner is always there with a smile and easy conversation everyday. Pasta dishes are big enough for 2, and the pizza is NY style. They even bake their own bread too for subs.

Tom, can't wait to read your response to the great coaching Herb Sendeck did today as a result of your article in saturday's paper!! As usual, same coaches, same outcome against UNC. Must be the result of all those experienced players on NC State, right. Or maybe those freshmen Roy Williams gets every year may be important. When is NC State going to learn?

Come on, Penguin Drive In must not qualify for some reason, no one has mentioned it yet. Huge burgers, fried pickles, and really cold beer.Change of pace- Next time you are in downtown Winston Salem at lunch time, try Cat's Corner Cafe. You just won't beleive it.Have to agree also with Howard- There is also a Big Al's on Albemarle Road.

For the first time in my life, I enjoyed being wrong. That's right. WRONG! I wrote Sorensen and P. Yasinskas following the Panthers-Cowboys game and expressed my sincere concern about the Panthers' "heart". At the time, I stated that each time during the season the Panthers had the opportunity to wrap up the NFC South, they blew it. I stated that they didn't have enough heart to go to Atlanta and "take care of their own business" to reach the playoffs. Boy was I wrong!

The Presto Grill on the corner of Graham and Trade St. uptown. They have great food, a great wine list, about 30-35 by the glass, and they have a great roof top patio. Probably the best patio uptown, with a skyline view.
