Five things at 5 p.m.: 1. Indianapolis looks good. I'm not saying the game is over, but my Colts are dominating. They lead 6-0. They're my Colts because I picked them against the spread today. 2. I had two New Year's Resolutions, and have not come close to attaining either. The first was to watch every episode of the Sopranos before the show returns to HBO. I have them on disc. Haven't watched one. The other, courtesy of Guido of New Orleans, who said somebody recommended it to him, is to be honest with myself. Man, you ever try that? 3. I don't know if Stephen A. Smith's show on ESPN has been canceled, and "Quite Frankly," I don't care. I never watched it, at least not with the sound on. I remember seeing it at Hickory Tavern when I was waiting for takeout. That's it. In related news, I have never intentionally watched the "Sports Reporters." I've been in rooms, gyms and press rooms, in which it has been on, but I've never sat down to watch it. The ESPN show with the columnists competing for points I also have never intentionally watched, and I know and like one of those guys. I'm not bitter, I'm not jealous. I just don't need to breathe sports. I get enough. I don't even watch "PTI", unless I happen to stumble across it, and it's by far the best of the sports talk shows. If it comes down to watching or doing, I'd rather do, even if it's as simple as walking my obnoxious dogs. 4. Looking forward to "Louisville's Own Ali," a film by Charlotte's Steve Crump, which WTVI will televise Wednesday. Ali turns 65 that day. That's a startling fact. Every time I see an old fight of Ali's on ESPN Classic, I have to watch, even though I usually have the thing on tape. 5. I never wanted a wide screen TV. Didn't care about high definition. Then a buddy put a Robert Plant-Jimmy Page (the remnants of Led Zeppelin) DVD on his 55-inch screen, popped the surround sound, and instead of watching the fellows on TV, I was there. I have wanted since. Bought one for Christmas. You know what looks good on a big screen? Boxing, basketball, movies, concerts and my Colts.

Tom,
Can you please write more about aspiring 20-something athletes moving to town. We need about 100 inches and we'll make sure - however non-descript the athlete - that it will appear on the front of our sports page.
