I had my first celebrity encounter Saturday. I saw Kellie Pickler of American Idol fame. She wore a lot of makeup, wore her hair short and was nice. Thus ends my up-close-and- personal report. You probably feel as if you know her now because of all the sizzling detail I gave you. There's a game people play in the Daytona International Speedway garage called, guess what they do. In other words, is that guy or woman an agent, in marketing or a member of the media? It's a tough game since no matter what folks do, they often wear a shirt or jacket emblazoned with the insignia of a manufacturer, sponsor or car. The loneliest woman in the infield is the one working the cappuccino $3 booth. I can't provide numbers to back this up, but there is a greater Latino presence in Daytona this year. If Juan Pablo Montoya, a native of Columbia who will begin his first Nextel Cup season Sunday, succeeds those numbers will jump. There's no mystery. Fans want to see a driver who reminds them of them.
