Savannah is one of the great cities of the South. It offers a little bit of Charleston, S.C., and a little bit of New Orleans. There's a mystery to it, and how many cities can make that claim?
In a selfless attempt to save the company money, I spent my first night on the road in a hotel five miles outside downtown Savannah. There are no mysteries in the suburbs of Savannah.
I could have been in Tulsa or Pineville. The restaurants are all part of a chain and the same ones you see in any other suburb.
A sign I would love to be greeted by: Welcome to Florida. If you block the left lane of the freeway, and thus force drivers to pass you in the middle or the right lane, you will be ticketed, ridiculed and nobody will like you anymore, not that they ever did.
One neat thing about the road is when you get in the car to start the day and have no idea in which city you'll sleep that night.

Tommy,
