Kobe Bryant usually waits until the season starts before he turns selfish. But some athletes work year round at a particular skill and, in terms of selfishness, Kobe already is in midseason form. Kobe's boycott might be a response to a comment by team owner Jerry Buss last week. Buss said he would listen to trade offers for Bryant. No wonder Kobe is hurt. On what grounds does the Lakers' top dog say Bryant is tradeable? I know. About 4 1/2 months ago Bryant said he wanted to be traded. Bryant undoubtedly is upset because the Lakers, who were mediocre last season, appear to have improved little if at all. I'm sure Bryant would like to play for a winner - provided Shaquille O'Neal was not part of it and he got to be the star and the coach did not ask him to do outrageous things such as pass. Does Memphis need a shooting guard?
He sat out three practices because he was tired and his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, couldn't say if he would play in Thursday's exhibition against Seattle.
