Goddard is charismatic. Just ask him

My new favorite player is Na'Shan Goddard, a rookie from South Carolina. An offensive lineman, he plays for New York's practice squad.

How do I describe you?

"Charismatic," he says. "I talk to everybody. You talk to me, you won't feel like a stranger. You'll feel like you've known me all your life."

Goddard is sitting at a table with other practice squad players who never play and never get interviewed. This is why they're spending Thursday's media session playing cards.

"Come on," one of the other guys says when Goddard doesn't pick up the cards in front of him. Goddard picks them up, but keeps talking.

I hear you like to eat. Goddard is 6-5 and weighs 315 pounds. I'm quick like that.

"An offensive lineman told you that, didn't he?" Goddard asks. "I do like to eat. I'm not fat, though."

He pats his stomach as he says it.

The wife of Pat Flaherty, the offensive line coach, brings treats for the players, homemade stuff. Goodard tastes it, samples it, samples all of it. He also brings treats of his own. Skittles, for example.

"But it's not just me," he says about his appetite.

Fellow offensive lineman Chris Snee "is right there with me. He'll tell me to bring orange juice sometimes, or milk. He's right there, I promise you."

What's being on the practice squad like?

"I love it," he says. "It's been a great year."

What's Super Bowl week been like?

"Crazy," he says.

He looks around the room.

"All the media," he says. "I think there are as many media here as there were when we played in the Outback Bowl my freshman year. Maybe even more."
