What a farce. The finish was especially impressive (yes, it's sarcasm). Why stop at 3 times trying to finish the race? I'll bet that rule changes by next week.

I watched the entire Nationwide race this weekend. 300 miles seems reasonable, and hey, it was good to see a female driver who could actually drive, as well as Junior and other drivers new and old. The 500 is just too long, not to mention the Olympics were on. Nascar needs to shorten the races down. I know very few people with the time or patience to watch cars go in a circle for 2-3 hours with 15 minutes of highlight video.

Hard to believe with the millions they make Daytona track owners are too damn cheap to pave it or even fix potential potholes since its been 1977 or 33 yrs since the last pave job. Even the QC with all the zillions of potholes all over ripping vehicles out of alignment or breaking suspension parts paves streets more than that. Repair shops love it though...

nNASCAR PROBLEM IS POOR MANAGEMENT AT THE TOP. IF THE SAME MANAGEMENT WERE AT FORD ,GM THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN OUSTED LONG AGO. NASCAR LEADERSHIP OR 'M'I'C'K'E'Y' NEEDS TO LOOK AT IT'S SELF, MICHEAL WALTRIP DID AND DECIDED HE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB. MAYBE BRIAN FRANCE AND TOP MANAGEMENT SHOULD DO THE SAME. A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR ORGANIZATION MANAGED CORRECTLY SHOULDN'T LOOK LIKE A 'M'I'C'K'E'Y' MOUSE ORGANIZATION. CAN'T FAULT DRIVER'S. EMPLOYEE,FAN'S, NOBODY BUT POOR MANAGEMENT WHO HAS SHOWN THEY'RE NOT THE RIGTH PEOPLE FOR THE JOB

I have to disagree with all of the above. I thought the racing was excellent. Waiting is not my favorite thing to do, but the racing was worth it.

Tom, I'm really sorry that David Poole is not there anymore and you have to dirty your hands with something that is obviously far beneath you. Maybe you should move to the New York Times. I almost believe no NASCAR news in the Observer would be better than your determination to only look for the negative and make anything into an issue. I thought you were a good journalist and could at least be objective.

NASCAR management has 'managed' to turn NASCAR into a multi-million dollar enterprise. Have any of you been able to manage anything that well? What other form of motor sports has enjoyed the success NASCAR has. If you know so much more than NASCAR, why don't you start your own series and go head to head with them.

As far as repaving the track, I didn't hear one driver that wanted that to happen before the problems. Even after the problems, they preferred it be patched instead of repaved, if possible. The racing is much better on old pavement. The very people who are saying it should have already been repaved are the ones who will be griping about the racing on the new pavement. It often takes a couple of years after repaving for it to season and rough up enough to produce good racing. It is scheduled to be repaved in 2012 and will probably be repaved sooner now. Hopefully they will be able to make it slick enough to race well immediately.

Sorenson is just an aged yup who never got into it like most until late because it wasnt cool. Most went to races only for the good wrecks and dead bodies anyway in neocrophilic facination.

They still like good pileups but its more about safety racing personality and mainstream even though its only 50 yrs old. Indy racing is 100 yrs old and baseball 150 yrs. It takes time.

Theres something about bad wrecks that will always attract rubber neck jaded America where 40-50 thou people are still killed and millions injured annually. That never changes and death still makes icons and heros. Look at Earnhardt. His big Daytona wreck death in 2000 tripled fan size.

Like the old Jim McKay ABC Wide World Of Sports "thrill of victory agony of defeat" ski slope fall ( that was fatal ) people will never lose the Evil Knievel facination with risk taking death defying feats at high speeds balancing life and death that breaks the boredom of the status quo.
Everybody is a twisted sicko on the roads. Road rage is a sport.

I totally agree with you. This game faield to live up to the hype. Loading times sucks, especially for online play. The game does not have updated cars, Kurt Bush is still in the #2 miller lite car for example. And god forbid if you run out of gas 10 feet away from the finish line, I finished in 7th place but the game gave me 43rd for rnning out of gas even thoughh I crossed the finish line. WTF!
