How bad has Tony Pike looked in practice to not consider giving him a look? Clausen has A LOT to learn if he's going to be the future

charlotteobserversucks

Why can't we let AE run the wildcat on 2nd down more often. I liked the two times they ran it, just do it a few times more during the game.

jake

never thought i would say it...can we have delhomme back?

Bill

Start Pike! Only joking!

To be honest I would put Moore in and pound the rock. Continuing with Clausen now is only going to ruin him in the long term. Get Moore to throw very rarely, and if so a dump off to D Williams. If gaps appear downfield use as a last resort. 3 and outs are at least not turnovers!

Starting a QB in their 1st year rarely works these days unless you have a future hall of famer in your midst & a good supporting cast.

Continue with Clausen & the Panthers will have ruined 3 QB careers in less than half the season. Delhomme is too old now & Moore might be a career back up or 3rd string, Clausen could make it, don't ruin him by making him play with the awful offense for the rest of the season.

BILL: I agree with you 100%. Plus, I think Matt Moore can be better. Clausen is terrible. Not even little rookie things....he just sucks. Let him learn from the sideline for the rest of the year, no need to let him get crushed.

Geoff Swartz (sp?) needs to come back to oregon with me. Otah is missed....

When you start a rookie you do have to accept that you won't have a winning season most likely. But you expect to see them improve over the course of the season. Clausen has no great skills as a QB and I'm not seeing any improvement. Manning was not the reason his team lost as a rookie.

1)He's short, so he has trouble finding throwing lanes in the pocket or throwing over D-linemen.

2)He has little hands and can't get the snap clean, hand off, or hold the ball when hit. No fixing that issue!

3)He does a very poor fake handoff, the most important task in running this boring old school play-action offense.

4) He's not a fast runner.

5) Throws the ball away or short on every bootleg play. Glad to see him not throw a pick, but on 3rd down it's not much better.

6) He doesn't have the charisma of a leader, there is no presence.

7) Answers all interview questions with the Fox approved answers. My wife listened only to his postgame interview and said "That's our QB? He looks and sounds like a little kid."

This is more like when we started Weinke, went 1-15, and he not only didn't improve but got worse every game.

If we are going to try the Wildcat, why run a reverse first play with a slow WR (Gettis)and act like it won't work and abandon it the rest of the game.

The Fox idea that we can get a team to jump offside on 4 and 1 only works in high school and Division III football. He is not a smart guy is he? Very overated coach, look forward to his departure at the end of the season.

Well majority of this fanbase wanted Clausen to start, now they have gotten their wish. But after todays game, they want to throw him under the bus?

Can anybody make up their minds on who they actually want to start? JR, hope you are ashamed of yourself limitng Hurney to imporve the team.

You don't want to hurt Clausen confidence, might as well go through the growing pains with a rookie QB.

But what made Matt R, Joe F, and Mark S was having a great running game along a good to great defense. Why is Williams only getting 10-13 carries a game? How can he get into a rhythm by being taken out the next day or not involve in the offense?

Fire Jeff D, but I don't want to see Rip S calling the plays. He's a horrible QB coach.

Hoooover45

As I've said before...we should have kept Jake. Jake always did, and still would, give us our best chance to win. He led us to 3 post seasons, and we were never 0-5 with him behind center.

309-18, 1-2

@sportsdon:

clausen is short? he's 6'2". the problem is 1). he is a rookie. having a rocket arm only gets you so far. you probably were not even born when elway was a rookie but he sucked out loud that first year and he could throw a ball through a carwash and it would not get wet. and 2). he has no receivers. also the play calling is abysmal. Shwartz: can we have one f'ing game where you do not get called for a false start on the first possession?

Spence

NO RECIEVERS? BUH-LONE-EE. WE GOT A GOOD CROP. SMITH NEEDS TO GO SOMEWHERE HE CAN WIN NOW!! GO HEAD SMITH, WE WON'T BE MAD. BY THE TIME WE'RE READY TO WIN, HE'LL BE TOO OLD. GO GET YOU ONE. WE GOT DEFENSE, THE O-LINE GAVE HIM TIME ON PLAY-ACTION. WE NEED A BETTER QB. I BEEN CALLIN FOR MOORE SINCE HIS WEEK THREE PULLING. I THINK HE'S BETTER THAN THIS

Fox is not to blame. He wanted to keep the vets. JR is setting himself for next year.

Claussen is not the answer. Let Moore be QB. Moore was put in a bad situation when JC came on board. Moore had to play perfect because - that is too much pressure.

Fire QB coach!

Most Panthers fans are whiny. I'm glad pep had his day.

Karen

Moore should get the chance to start...after all he was the hero after the last 5 games of the year. He doesn't have a huge amount of experience but he has more than Clausen. The Panthers fans jumped the gun when we drafted Clausen...he needs to sit on the bench for a while and learn. Moore is not a fantastic quarterback but he is capable of being efficient and made few mistakes when he filled in for Jake at the end of last year. The youth and inexperience of our team is going to make it hard for any quarterback but I agree that Moore was put in a bad situation. There is a complete lack of chemistry on the offensive end...can't really get any worse than it is now. By the way, I've been sayint this all along, not just because Clausen has sucked as a starter.

Bill

If Moore goes back to game managing like he did tail end of last season we might have half a chance of a win or two.

We were in the NYG game but then he went bad Jake & tried to force balls in instead of taking what the defence gave him, even if it did mean throwing the ball away & taking the field goal.

Run the ball, passing short screen passes whilst counting on the defence & Kasay is best chance we have of respectability & not totally ruining the young talent we have. If the load the box then so be it, just don't try & force things & turnover the football.

Lynne

So, the "brain dead" diagnosis performed on Matt by the news media was a little premature, huh? I said that too many people wrote him off before he had the chance to really show them what he can do when the situation presents itself. For God's sakes, give him the chance to prove himself before you totally crucify him...

trs

No quarterback has a chance with the receivers we're putting on the field. They are all rookies. You're fooling yourselves if you think changing the quarterback, at this point, is going to get this passing game going. Might as well right this season off as a loss.

Donna

What is the Old saying? "Don't wish for what you want because you might get it". Well everyone wanted Jake Delhomme out and they got their wish. And now we are a million times worse without him. We NEVER went 0-5 with him behind center. I hated when they left Jake go. I knew it wasn't going to work. The grass is always greener on the other side right. Well without Jake at center the grass is just dead!

Human Being

Who's gonna play the part of Rodney Peete? Who's gonna play Jake Delhomme? We've been waiting since 2004 to do a replay of 2003 for how long?
