Never saw that one coming. Mare misses from 31 yards. Field goal would have sent the game to overtime. Panthers go down instead.
One word was on the mind of every fan at the stadium. Well, there were other words, but I can't get them in print.
The word: Kasay.

I"ll take Mare any day to add another player to the active roster.

If you recall, Mr. Clutch Kasay kicked the ball out of bounds in the Panther's only super bowl appearance which led to the Patriot win.
Posted by: Will | October 30, 2011 at 04:56 PM
Kasay did NOT lose that Super Bowl. For the last time, our defense was spent, it wouldn't have mattered where Brady and NE started from, they would have drove for the winning FG. Fox and Henning both deserved the blame for that due to not opening up the offense until it was too late (see 1st half)....quit blaming Kasay! IF it weren't for #4 that year, we never would have been there.
And #4 would have made that FG today with his eyes closed. Mare sucks and should be deported!

Get your Kasay/Super Bowl facts straight. Yes he kicked the ball out of bounds. The Pats subsequently got a holding penalty, putting the ball at the 30. If he'd kicked it in bounds and NE returned it to the 30, no one would complain. That's not what cost Carolina the Super Bowl.

We deserve what we got today for cutting the last true Panther. Stats may have been slightly better but stats can't measure heart!!

Tom, please don't feed my wife's anti-Mare fire. One of her Christmas presents 2 years ago was her #4 jersey. She actually put it on, and is stomping around the house. In regard to Hurney, while I agree he's made some gaffes, he did draft Cam.
But yes, JK would have made the kick. His nickname around our house is "money".

I hope to God Mare is not on the team next week, but I'm not holding my breath.

Cut Mare. He has also missed an XP this year, right?
Posted by: John | October 30, 2011 at 05:29 PM
How dare Hurney and Mare make mistakes! We posters are all perfect in every way and cannot tolerate anything less from a professional football organization!
Posted by: jeff | October 30, 2011 at 05:33 PM
The XP was blocked.

When I was questioning getting rid of Kasay for a guy who is like 2 years younger, everyone was calling me sentimental, we need to move on to the future, etc.
Well with half the season over, Kasay leads the NFL in scoring with the Saints, and Mare can't even hit a 30-yard chip shot to give us a chance to win the game. We would have had all the momentum heading into overtime, and now we're 2-6. Nice job.

Ok I just checked, Mare is actually 3 1/2 years younger than Kasay. Sorry about that, now it all makes since. Great move Panthers!

We would not be having this conversation if Chris Gamble could make a open field tackle...

The real heartbreaker was the stupid holding penalty earned by Steve Smith that took back 1st and goal from the 3. That was 3 chances to win and one to tie. But then after typical Red Zone penalties by the penalty prone pathetic panthers the field goal try might have been from the 45.

I don't blam Mare for that just I didn't blam John. The real tragedies were these. First the Cam fumble for a turnover and a quick Viking touchdown after, the slack secondary (again!), and finally another penalty by a veteran player (in this case Steve) that pushed back a touchdown drive. I saw the replay and I can't swear Steve wasn't held first as he ran into that linebacker (?) but sometimes you just have to know that the penalty is gonna hurt the team. It's not like these guys don't know what a hold is. So close but once again too many mistakes. Still exciting and fun to watch while still being disappointed. Last couple of years I had been just plain disappointed.
Go Panthers!

Were the laces in or out when Orlando Finkle kicked that ball

Anyone taking up for AE isn't actually watching this team. Last year it was Fox's fault for not catching the punts for him, plus not making him come to camp in shape and asking too much of him. This year, while he is not playing any other ST, it's the bloc, ers fault. Don't hear Cam saying that, do you?
Posted by: Phillip | October 30, 2011 at 06:19 PM
somebody tell me why mike goodson dont return punts and why we cut kasay again i am start to see that the weak links are the coaching staff
Posted by: panther nationm | October 30, 2011 at 06:19 PM
One missed field goal does not lose a game. Many other missed opportunities did it for us. Special teams and defense need improving...we'll get there but it's not going to be this year.
Posted by: Twin Mom | October 30, 2011 at 06:35 PM
Guess what...that missed field goal lost the game, just like Cruz's misplay in the world series lost the series, lets not sugar coat it

What Tom said:
"Never saw that one coming. Mare misses from 31 yards."
Really? Who's kidding who, Tom. Minnesota missed at nearly the eact same place on the field in the first quarter, and won.
Maybe Tom Sorenson sees better than he writes. Or he'd be talking more seriously about coaching mistakes in planning for this game (if he really cared).
Tom is challenged. More this year than last when he was a Panthers-management losing mouthpiece.
It's not about a missed-or-made field goal. This is about bad coaching decisions, and personnel problems.
Sorry Rivera and Chud. It's just not working. Ask Jerry and see what he says.

The defense sucks.
Mare sucks. He's always had one of the lamest legs in the NFL.
Kasay leads the NFL in scoring.
All facts.
