I'm open minded; Coples or Blackmon are fine

    I still think Carolina will and should take North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples in tonight's NFL draft, unless wide receiver Justin Blackmon falls to them.

    But I don't know, and I don't claim to know, what the Panthers will do.

    Their greatest need is a pass rusher, and Coples is the most talented pass rusher in the draft. True, Coples has a lot of critics, many in the media. So did Cam Newton, and many of his loudest critics were in the media, too.

     Whomever your pick is, enjoy the evening. Maybe see you at Bank of America Stadium. The draft party the Panthers sponsored, for the first time, last season was superb.

Coples was a bun last season, but ramped it up for the Senior Bowl and the combine so he could maximize his paycheck.

He says, "Draft me. I wasn't lazy last season, I just produced less because I had to shed blocks of better players."

Once he gets his signing bonus, that's the last max-effort you will see from him until the last year of his contract. He's a total fraud. I'd rather see the Panthers draft a Tar Heel basketball player than Coples.

Peppers would such a freakish physical specimen, he likely felt like he could skate and still produce.. which he did. Coples isn't quite as physically gifted, so likely will play with more effort to maintain elite level numbers. I think he'll do well in the NFL.

Let's not hop on Edwards any more. I watched every game last year and on every ball he received, he was surrounded by defensive players. Where were the blockers? Special teams and defense were weaknesses which must be overcome with better coaching and personnel in those areas.
Conversely, Cam couldn't have walked in the end zone on those 5 and 10 yard carries without good execution. Football is a very team oriented sport.
