The Daytona 500 was like every other restrictor place, but with less passing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. made a late run to finish second. He was flying at the end with a boost from Mark Martin. He made the conclusion interesting.
Jimmie Johnson was great, the first driver in Daytona the last two weeks to master the inside line. He won the Daytona 500.
The race was dull most of the afternoon. Boring, fans said.
And then, when drivers were forced to drive urgently, they did. The last seven laps were entertaining.

Jimmie Johnson is a tremendous driver who, despite his five championships, often is characterized as a man with tremendous equipment as opposed to a man with tremendous talent.
He has both.
