I walked to practice Friday behind a group of rookies that included Carolina second-round pick Kawaan Short. First impression: He's big. He's real big. Short is 6-3, 310 pounds. Some players aren't as big as they're supposed to be. But the roster tells no lies about Short, a defensive tackle.
Kenjon Barner, the sixth-round pick out of Oregon, looks as if he can fly even when he's standing still. He's a 5-9, 196-pound tailback who rushed for 1,767 yards last season. He's all quick twitch and overt speed.
Outside Bank of America Stadium there was a Ford and a 4x4, a Camry and a Cadillac Seville, albeit a few years old. When the veterans are here, the parking lot is like a fashion show. On Friday, it was the rookies. They haven't been paid yet.
