The timing of Carolina's decision to cut Geoff Hangartner was interesting. WIth Hangartner gone, who starts at right guard?
The Panthers have to have a free-agent in whom they believe because I don't see a starting right guard on the roster.
If you do, show me.
Edmund Kugbila, the rookie guard the Panthers drafted out of Valdosta State in the fourth round, injured a hamstring in the first practice of camp, left on a cart and has not been heard from since.
Travelle Wharton anyone?

We didn't have a starter with Hangartner! He was brutal to watch at the start of last year!

Just the Panthers doing what the Panthers do. That is making the worst of a decent situation time and time again. It is time the Big Cat took some lessons from MJ on how to hire the right people for team positions.

Maybe Brandon Moore they have in mind solid player best guard available in free agency

To Truthteller,
Do us all a favor and go back to Dallas, New York or wherever you came from. We need fans not bitter loser attitudes.

Truthteller,
Your comment goes to show how little you know. MJ is the last persone ANYONE should emulate on how to run a franchise.
Truth is, GH was a back up until there were injuries. As much as I liked him - and the locker room liked him - he had a pretty bad year and was the reason Cam got hit so many times.

This is the article I was hoping to see written, as opposed to the ridiculous, "Let's give Gettleman the benefit of the doubt" because it's, you know, reporting. With our injury history, I'd like to think we have someone to fill that spot in mind before we get rid of a versatile starter--not saying he's great, but on a team with 13 running backs, we should have more depth here.

Gettleman seems to have done too little to fix the OL so releasing a good if not great lineman without someone to add seems at best premature. Williams may be the better choice to start but now there is no one behind him with any real experience, how does that make sense? Releasing experience without a replacement is not fixing the OL!

Right, because Gary's guaranteed to be fine for the entire season...I don't know why I expect more from the people who post-totally missing the point. I count at least three lost seasons due to injuries to OL, but sure, let's have one, untested guard with no backup. Need to find some depth here if the backfield can deliver on its paycheck.

When I first heard this I will admit I thought... Wow, what a dumb move. Then the more I thought about it, I began to agree with the move. First, he did not play very well last season, he is 31, and they did this early in camp (so gives him an opportunity to get into camp with another team, the Panthers shake up camp early, and they can develop a younger player or have a spot open if another team drops somebody they covet.)
If Hangartner was younger then I would be more incline to say bad move but at 31... I think we have seen the best of Hangartner. We can develop a younger player and don't think there will be much drop off (if any).
Come on... Gettleman just started, give the guy a chance to mold this team into what he believes will be the right combination of talent.
Go Panthers!

Anybody thought about the possibility that Gettleman cut him because of his cap figure and may still re-sign him at a lower figure? He was supposed to make something in the neighborhood of $1.5 mil for this season. I agree with everyone saying that he was average and mostly a backup. But why are you paying a "backup" $1.5 mil?? I still have faith that G-man will bring someone in (even if it's Hangartner at a lower figure) and that his building model will include an overhaul of the O-line next draft, since he did that with the D-line this year.
I give the man a lot of credit. The D-line, on paper, looks as fierce as we might have ever seen in franchise history. We have a solid, and potentially rock-star level LB corps (assuming Davis/Beason don't have any more injury setbacks), thanks in part to G-man's drafting Klein and adding Blackburn as solid backups. He's made MAJOR headway with retooling our ridiculous salary cap situation, so I would say we are well on our way to becoming a serious contender. I'm not saying we are there NOW, but imagine what we might look like if he transforms the OL next draft like he did the DL this year, and maybe finds a top-tier free agent WR and CB.....just sayin....
