Be interesting to know who won when Greg Hardy went against Michael Oher at Mississippi.
Hardy almost certainly won't be back with the Panthers. Would be like old times, however, if he returned. The Panthers announced Friday that they had signed Oher to a two-year contract.
Last season left tackle Byron Bell was blamed for everything but inflation. Bell was overmatched. No matter where Carolina plays Oher, he shouldn't be. He played five good seasons with Baltimore and one bad one, last season, with Tennesee.
I like the move. The Panthers have several positions of need, and offensive line was and might still be at the top. In related news, New England and Seattle also have positions of need. In early March, no team is whole.
Oher isn't an acquisition that will entice fans to pop a cork. But he's solid. The Panthers also require a receiver and a running back, a defensive back, another offensive lineman and, perhaps, a pass rusher. They need to sign Cam Newton to a contract that will cost them at least $20 million a season.
The NFL season never ends. Friday was a good start for Carolina.
