The winner:
"President Fox told me this was the fastest way back."
-- submitted by David W. White of Charlotte.
Iraq, immigration and President Bush's recent summit meeting in Cancun, Mexico, were obviously on many minds, judging from the pile of cartoon captions that sneaked in this week. While we received a few similar in theme to Mr. White's, his entry's phrasing had just the right punch to win the grand prize, the original cartoon art with his caption on it.
The runners-up:
“Straddling the fence was getting painful!”
-- submitted by Bruce Bailey of Charlotte.
“Don't mind me, officer. Just testing this new Guest Worker program.”
-- submitted by Scott Pearl of Matthews.
"Helen Thomas is in town again!"
-- submitted by Shirlee McLean of Lincolnton, NC.
"It's my exit strategy!"
-- submitted by a whole bunch of folks.
Thanks again for all your entries. Here's a sampling of some of the other lines we received this week:
"I was looking for my approval rating."
"I am not wiretapping, I am wire cutting!"
"Hmmmm . . . What Would Cynthia McKinney Do?"
"Cheney's out hunting again!"
"I'm just testing the escape clause of our country's impeachment laws..."
"My immigration strategy and my exit strategy have finally come together!"
"Really tough crowds outside the beltway!"
“Since no Americans want it, I thought I’d come over and see if anyone here wants the FEMA job.”
"I'm getting out of here. When I asked for a diverse audience I was thinking more along the lines of having the different banks represented."
“I’m just trying to stay in touch with my constituents.”
"But I swear officer -- the G. W. stands for 'guest worker'!"
