Rex Babin, 49, editorial cartoonist for the Sacramento Bee passed away Friday. He was a great artist and a wonderful colleague. Definitely one of the good guys. I'm too saddened to write much, but here's a great quote from another colleague:
"He was a cartoonist who other cartoonists really respected," said his longtime friend, Jack Ohman, editorial cartoonist for the Portland Oregonian. "I thought he was the most artistically talented cartoonist in the U.S. He was almost painterly in his approach.
"He was influential with other cartoonists because he challenged them all the time to talk about local issues that affected their own readers."
The cartoon above, "Wings on the Hudson", was one of his most popular, drawn as a tribute to US Airways Flight 1549.
The Sacramento Bee ran a great piece today, which you can find here.
A gallery of Rex's cartoons can be found by clicking here.

Sad to see the cartoon world lose someone so young and talented. Really moving cartoon above, his gallery was worth taking my time today, along with deep sadness.
