Thanks bill, but there also was an article in the viewpoint page of the Observer end of December that did explain a few more tips on how to win a caption contest.....

Every Monday, for the last seven years, it has said - "To learn more about our contest and see our caption writing guidelines, please click here."

When you click, you get the exact same wording as the end of December article.
