Earlier this week, the software platform that hosts our You Write the Caption contest, Typepad, was hit with a "distributed denial of service" attack which shut them down and prevented anyone from accessing our site. While outside of the control of the Observer, Typepad techs spent days working on the problem, and they appear to have brought the associated blogs back to life (in addition to You Write the Caption, the Observer's Panther blogs also use this platform).
Many folks, following the contest in the printed newspaper, were able to send their caption entries in for this week's challenge as normal. But for those readers who only use the online site, we're extending the deadline for this week's IRS Easter Bunny challenge by an extra day. The new deadline for this week is noon, Thursday, April 24. Thanks for your patience and sorry about the inconvenience.
